Activate has swiftly become one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies, reshaping how people merge digital experiences with physical activity with three simple words – enter the game.

Founded by Adam and Megan Schmidt in 2017 in Winnipeg, Activate has redefined the gaming experience by seamlessly blending physical challenges with immersive, tech-driven environments. Activate’s innovative approach to entertainment has not only disrupted the traditional gaming industry but also carved out a new niche in the market –active gaming.

At the heart of Activate’s success is its groundbreaking product offering. Activate’s facilities feature interactive game rooms where participants engage in challenges that test their agility, reflexes and problem-solving skills. Rooms like Mega Grid, which made Activate TikTok famous, simulate the nostalgia for the feeling of the game The Floor is Lava as multi-coloured tiles light up across the floor, or Lasers that make players feel like international spies. These rooms are equipped with advanced RFID technology that tracks gameplay, allowing players to earn points, move up leaderboards and access exclusive rewards.

What sets Activate apart from traditional gaming experiences is its emphasis on replayability and physical engagement. With hundreds of games ranging from easy to extreme levels, players are encouraged to return time and again, each visit offering new challenges and opportunities for growth. This unique concept has not only attracted gaming enthusiasts but also fitness-minded individuals, families and groups looking for a fun and engaging way to stay active.

Now boasting over 30 locations across North America, Activate has accelerated global expansion plans, with 40 net-new openings planned by the end of 2025. Activate and its global development partners have been working with international, national and regional landlords to secure attractive real estate locations for expansion. Activate plans for both corporate and development partner openings across North America, including entering California, New York, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota and Colorado markets in the United States, as well as British Columbia, Quebec, and Saskatchewan in the Canadian market. These North American openings are in addition to the planned international expansions in the Middle East and U.K. markets with development partners Majid Al Futtaim and We Do Play. This expansion is expected to further solidify Activate’s position as a global leader in active gaming.

As part of the planned expansion, Activate was pleased to receive $37-million in financing from RBC and EDC, demonstrating the strength of the business model and the ability to capitalize on the growth opportunity that Activate sees in 2025 and 2026.

Activate’s impressive financial trajectory is a testament to its successful business model and market appeal. For the fiscal year ending August 31, 2024, Activate is projected to generate an estimated $40-million in revenue. This significant growth has been fuelled by the company’s continuous expansion and its ability to attract a diverse and loyal customer base.

Activate’s rapid growth has been supported by a dedicated and expanding team. The company currently employs 351 people, each playing a crucial role in delivering the high-quality experiences that have become synonymous with the Activate brand. From game designers and engineers to manufacturing and facility operations, every employee is integral to both the customer journey and the company’s ongoing success.

With its robust expansion plans, strong financial performance and unwavering commitment to innovation, Activate is well-positioned for continued growth. As the company prepares to enter new markets and introduce its unique brand of entertainment to a global audience, it remains poised to lead the way in active gaming and redefine the future of interactive entertainment.

Activate is not just a game – it’s a movement. By combining the thrill of gaming with the benefits of physical activity, Activate is leading a new era in entertainment, one where fun, fitness, and innovation come together to create an experience unlike any other.
