CNOOC starts production at Long Lake Northwest Project in Canada

CNOOC Petroleum North America ULC started production at its heavy oil Long Lake Northwest Project in Alberta, Canada.

The main production infrastructure includes a new well pad and four pipelines. It will be developed with steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operation. Eight well pairs are planned to be commissioned. The project is expected to achieve a peak production of about 8,200 b/d in 2025.

Long Lake, just south of Fort McMurray, began producing in 2008 and is a SAGD-only operation with production capacity of about 72,000 boe/d. In 2018, the project was expanded with the Long Lake Southwest project that targeted an additional 26,000 boe/d from three well pads tied-in to the existing Long Lake infrastructure.

A pipeline connects Long Lake to the Cheecham Terminal, about 20 km south, where it links into the Athabasca Pipeline system.

CNOOC Petroleum North America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC Ltd., is operator at the Long Lake Northwest Project and holds 100% interest.
