Darwin Nunez and a number of Uruguay players were involved in ugly scenes after their Copa Ameria defeat by Colombia.
South American football’s governing body, CONMEBOL, have reportedly made a decision on Darwin Nunez ahead of Uruguay’s clash against Canada.
On Wednesday night, Uruguay were knocked out of the 2024 Copa America after losing 1-0 to Colombia.
Crystal Palace man Jefferson Lerma’s first-half goal was enough to secure Colombia a date against Argentina in the final, which will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday night.
During the aftermath of Uruguay’s defeat by Colombia, Liverpool striker Nunez, along with a number of his teammates were involved in unsavoury scenes in the stands.
It was reported that the trouble took place in the section where members of the players’ families were located in the ground.
On the back of the incident, a statement from CONMEBOL read: “There is no place for intolerance and violence on and off the field. Conmebol strongly condemns any act of violence affecting football.
“We invite everyone in the remaining days to pour all their passion into supporting their teams and to have an unforgettable celebration.”
It was then reported that Nunez could face a lengthy ban from football if FIFA deem necessary.
Ahead of Uruguay’s third-place play-off match against Canada, it has been claimed by Referi that Nunez will be allowed to play.
As per The Anfield Talk, who wrote on social media: “Darwin Nunez is NOT suspended for Uruguay vs. Canada, which the AUF see as a “good indication” of sanctions by CONMEBOL.
“The player trained with the rest of the Uruguay squad on Thursday and posed for photos with fans.”

Speaking about the incident after the match, an emotional Jose Maria Gimenez said: “Let me say something before they cut you off because they won’t let us speak into the microphone.
“They don’t want me to say anything about what’s going on but this is a disaster. Our families are in danger.”
He added: “We had to get into the stands ASAP to rescue our loved ones with newborn babies.
“It was a disaster; there was no police and we had to defend our families. This is the fault of two or three people who had a few too many drinks and don’t know how to drink.”
