On Friday, Bronx drill trailblazer Kay Flock gave the people what they wanted with his booming new mixtape, Make America Flock Again. In a show of force, the influential star brings together a powerful all-Bronx lineup to flesh out the immersive set — Lil Tjay, AC Zoe, B-Lovee, Stunna, Kenzo Balla, and TG Flockaa — which is Kay Flock’s first project since 2022’s The D.O.A. Tape [Care Package].
Last month, ended a two-year drought with the booming mixtape opener, “Fed Up.” It was a full-circle moment since his first big record was as a guest on Lil Tjay’s RIAA Gold®-certified “Not in the Mood.” But Kay Flock has since dropped his own Gold records (“Is Ya Ready,” “PSA,” “Being Honest,” and Hot 100 hit “Shake It” featuring Cardi B, Dougie B, and Bory300) and he’s once again poised to run up the play count with Make America Flock Again.
Take “What You On,” where AC Zoe, Kay Flock, and B-Lovee tear through their rapid-fire verses, painting dark pictures of retribution over a guitar line that gets subtly warped across a backdrop of harsh bass and paranoid whispers. Our host is as focused as ever, injecting some humor into the storytelling: “They say, ‘Kay, you be buggin’, like, brodie what’s wrong?’ / I don’t know, I just get in my zone / I start clickin’ till this s*** is gone / Most of my opps bunny hop to my songs.”
Make America Flock Again sports production from the likes of the GRAMMY-nominated Kenoe (Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z), Project Kidz (Lil Baby, Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi Vert), and Marcuss Muzik (NBA YoungBoy, MO3, HD4President), among others who help create a futuristic, bass-damaged soundtrack for Kay Flock and his friends. “Clicking” featuring Stunna sounds dystopian and distorted, while posse cut “Everything K” with Dougie B, Kenzo Balla, and TG Crippy constantly shifts beneath the rappers’ feet.
Before the tape wraps, fans get another side of Kay Flock on the relationship-focused “Talk 2 Me” — a reminder of the range and innovation he staked out in the first place. The original The D.O.A. Tape made The New York Times’ esteemed best albums of 2022 list, and the 18-track [Care Package] expansion found him in all his various modes of confident yet introspective lyricism, tracing his growth from the aforementioned Gold®-certified cuts on through buzzworthy additions like “Outta Luck” featuring a then-rising BIG30. The project includes features from rap luminaries like Gucci Mane, Fivio Foreign, G Herbo, and others.
By the age of 19, Kay Flock had already helped to transform drill music in New York and beyond, earning critical acclaim from publications including The New York Times, Pitchfork, VULTURE, STEREOGUM, Rolling Stone, Billboard and more. Two years on, with Make America Flock Again now in play, Kay Flock may very well shift the culture yet again.
You can find Make America Flock Again on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital streaming platforms.
