KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A referee in Tuesday night’s Copa America group play match between Peru and Canada fainted during the first half of action.
It happened during the 49th minute of the match at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan. The referee who collapsed was an assistant referee who was standing on the side of the field that had no shade.

The referee was stretchered off the field and applauded by fans in attendance.
The match began at 5 p.m. Tuesday with feels-like temperatures in KCK near 100 degrees.
