CHILLIWACK, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA — Trouw Nutrition North America has opened its largest mill in North America in Chilliwack, British Columbia. During a grand opening on Sept. 11, which included 400 guests, company representatives said the new facility represented a significant milestone for Trouw Nutrition and the industry, promising to set new standards with improved efficiency and sustainability.
“Feeding the future is our purpose and what we are doing here in Chilliwack is basically boosting the future of an industry in which we believe in,” said Gastón López Minder, general manager, Trouw Nutrition West Region of Canada. “We are not only investing in assets, but in people that can bring innovation and knowledge to elevate the livestock industry and our local economy.”
The new 40,000-square-foot mill features 50% more production capacity than the original facility, which was built in 1958 and will soon be torn down. It also has 30% more grain storage capacity.
The mill, which was constructed in three years, also has 20% less CO2 boiler energy consumption than the previous plant.
“This facility not only enhances our production capabilities but also demonstrates our commitment to innovation and sustainability,” said Walker Eliason, manufacturing and supply chain director for Trouw North America. “The new mill is a game-changing facility equipped with the latest in cutting-edge technology designed to optimize production and reduce environmental impact. We are dedicated to providing high-quality products to our customers while minimizing our environmental footprint for future generations.”
Trouw Nutrition, a Netherlands-based Nutreco company which operates in 105 countries and has 22 manufacturing plants employing about 1,400 workers, said the mill will supply feed to British Columbia’s dairy and poultry sectors.
