Nocturne Luxury Villas expands into the Cayman Islands: Travel Weekly

Nocturne Luxury Villas recently expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of 140 high-end homes from Grand Cayman Villas and Condos. This acquisition is in line with Nocturne’s goal to expand in key luxury markets across North America and the Caribbean, including previous acquisitions along Florida’s Panhandle, the Baja peninsula, St. Barts and Telluride, Colo.

“Grand Cayman is a popular destination, especially for travelers from North America. The island offers easy airlift, direct flights from many U.S. cities and a wide variety of luxury homes and condos,” said Scott Wiseman, CEO of Nocturne Luxury Villas. “The properties along Seven Mile Beach and Rum Point were particularly appealing, bringing diversity to our portfolio with beachfront locations and private pools.”

The villas are privately owned and therefore are all different. The portfolio stretches from 7 Mile Beach to Rum Point, including the resort community of Cayman Kai.  They range from one-bedroom condos and cottages to 11-bedroom private luxury villas, all professionally designed and serviced. Most have pools and offer
beachfront access and amenities like paddleboards and kayaks.

Scott Wiseman

Since its inception in 2021, Nocturne has been on what Wiseman considers a simple but effective expansion path: acquire luxury villa companies that are leaders in their respective markets. “The companies we acquire have been leaders in luxury villa rentals for years, and that’s a key factor in our selection,” he said. “These aren’t mass-market properties. We aim for exclusivity, ensuring that most of the homes we represent are exclusive to us.”

Nocturne’s model hinges on a hands-on approach, according to the CEO. “From property management to housekeeping and concierge services, we handle everything in-house,” Wiseman said. “We maintain a direct relationship with the homeowners, ensuring we put the right guests in these homes while taking care of the properties.”

Why Grand Cayman?

For Nocturne, the appeal of Grand Cayman was multifaceted. The island is not only one of the most accessible Caribbean destinations, but it also offers an abundance of luxury properties. “Many people are familiar with Seven Mile Beach, but our Grand Cayman acquisition also brings homes in Rum Point, which offers a quieter, more laid-back alternative while still providing easy access to the island’s premier attractions,” he said.

The acquisition also allows Nocturne to tap into Grand Cayman and its thriving tourism infrastructure, which includes diverse dining, shopping and recreational options. “In Grand Cayman, we can offer our guests more than just a place to stay,” Wiseman said. “We have boots on the ground to curate unique local experiences, whether it’s a yacht tour to Stingray Island or a private chef preparing a meal in the villa.”

Nocturne’s latest acquisition comes at a time when the luxury villa market is experiencing significant growth. What was once considered an alternative lodging option is now a mainstream choice for high-end travelers. “I don’t think villa rentals should be considered ‘alternative’ anymore,” Wiseman said. “Platforms like Airbnb and VRBO introduced the concept to the masses, but luxury travelers have realized that villas offer a level of privacy, comfort and customization that’s unmatched by traditional hotels.”

What’s next?

Nocturne has 1,500 exclusive homes under its umbrella, but according to Wiseman the company isn’t finished with growth. “We’re always looking for new opportunities, particularly in beach destinations and ski markets,” he said. “We’re also expanding along the U.S. coasts and exploring unique destinations like Big Sky country and ski destinations.”
