The ChargePoint integration is expected to go live in the 4th quarter of 2024. According to Porsche Cars North America (PCNA), it brings the number of EV charging stations in the US available through its charging service to 86,000. The My Porsche app allows Porsche EV and PHEV drivers to find and pay at ChargePoint roaming partner charging stations.
ChargePoint even speaks of 100,000 EV chargers available through the app. When asked about the different figures, Porsche replied, “ChargePoint is including upcoming partnership agreements that should be going online within the next few weeks. We kept the number to what is currently available at the time of the release.”
“We passionately believe in choice, and as a result we are constantly looking for opportunities to enhance our customer experience and expand charging options,” said Timo Resch, President and CEO of PCNA. “This is a significant step in that direction, and well-timed as we look forward to the arrival of both the new Taycan arriving at Porsche Centers this summer but also the all-new Macan Electric later this year.”
“ChargePoint is honoured to help Porsche provide their drivers with a charging experience that aligns with the rest of their renowned brand experience,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “We are pleased to offer more charging options for Porsche drivers, and ChargePoint software will enhance their experience by enabling integrated and frictionless charging.”
Porsche is not only extending its charging network in the US. It also opened its fourth Porsche Charging Lounge in Europe, this time in Ingolstadt, Germany. The first three lounges are located in Bingen am Rhein, Estenfeld near Würzburg and Koblach in Austria.
The new site offers four fast chargers with 400 kW and four 22 kW AC charging points. More stations will be added in the future. Moreover, charging power at the first three sites has also been increased from 300 to 400 kW. As with previous Porsche Charging Lounge locations, only Porsche can plug in and charge. Only Porsche drivers with a Porsche ID linked to the car are able to access the lounge area.
Further locations along the most important European traffic routes are planned. Initially, the carmaker is focusing on Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
In Spain, Porsche is building HPC parks with the Spanish energy supplier Iberdrola under the name ‘Porsche Iberdrola High Power Charging Network’. An agreement to this effect was signed in 2020 and the first charging park in Elche in the province of Alicante went into operation in February 2022. There are a total of four charging points with up to 400 kW and twelve charging points with up to 200 kW. With all charging points, the system has a capacity of four megawatts.
