30th Anniversary Meeting of the LLECE

The Latin American Laboratory for the Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE) is celebrating its 30th anniversary with an in-person event in Santiago, Chile, on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of December 2024. For three decades, the LLECE, led by UNESCO’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, has played a key role in generating evidence to improve educational quality in the region. This celebration aims not only to reflect on its history but also to reaffirm its commitment to a future of more equitable and quality education for all.

The agenda includes sessions highlighting the most significant achievements of the past three decades, as well as discussions exploring the path ahead for post-pandemic educational transformation. Participation from key figures, such as Ministers of Education and experts in educational assessment, will facilitate the sharing of successful experiences and the outlining of strategies to address current challenges. Innovations in assessment that have provided a deeper understanding of inequalities and opportunities within education systems will also be analysed.

One of the event’s key objectives is to strengthen cooperation among member countries, promoting the exchange of best practices and collaborative work around public policies that have proven effective. The meeting will also serve as an opportunity to thank all the individuals and institutions that have contributed to making the Latin American Laboratory for the Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE) a robust and respected network known for its rigour and its contribution to educational equity.

As part of the anniversary activities, UNESCO Santiago will organise a special visit for international delegations to Liceo San Nicolás, located in the Ñuble region. This institution, recognised as an example of excellence and quality education in central-southern Chile, will provide participants with a first-hand experience of its teaching and learning model. This visit will showcase the school’s achievements in educational transformation, presenting Latin America and the Caribbean with an inspiring approach to improving education systems across the region.
