Abrdn bets big in Chile, China despite 'pretty grim' decade for emerging markets — Capital Brief

It’s been a “pretty grim 10 years” for emerging markets investors but Abrdn senior investment director Nick Robinson is seeing plenty of promising names as the cycle begins to turn.

Robinson – who manages the Sustainable Emerging Opportunities Fund for the £506 billion ($989 billion) fund manager – for example is seeing major opportunities in China where it’s taking contrarian bets.

“We’re underweight the overall Chinese market, but we have some quite large positions there in names which are not hugely loved by the market, like Catl, the battery manufacturer and Sungrow which makes solar panels,” Robinson said.

“I think the market gets too concerned about US exposure to both of them which is pretty minor.”
