Chile has sent a note of protest to Argentina’s government after President Gabriel Boric was criticised by a top official.

Argentina’s Luis Caputo, Milei’s top economy chief, said Wednesday that Boric is “a communist” who would “sink” Chile.

“A note of protest was formally delivered to the Argentine ambassador to Chile, Jorge Faurie, expressing the Chilean government’s rejection of the inappropriate and inaccurate statements made by the Argentine economy minister, Luis Caputo,” the Foreign Ministry in Santiago said in a message to the press.

Boric’s government complained about Caputo’s remarks, which were delivered during an interview on an Argentine radio station.

Chile “today is practically governed by a communist who is about to sink them,” alleged Caputo.

Milei himself has criticised Boric several times as part of his general slamming of Latin America’s left-wing leaders.

During last year’s presidential campaign, Milei called Boric an “impoverisher” due to his political views.
