Then, the pandemic shut downs in 2020 caused the entire industry to grind to halt, much as it did around the world. Since every country had its own re-opening strategy, the process of rebuilding the worldwide travel industry has been long and complicated.
Chile has reached an impressive benchmark after years of uncertainty from a tourism perspective. In October 2024, tourism in the country jumped nearly 40% from where is was in 2023. Even more impressive is the fact that those current numbers are nearly 8% higher than pre-pandemic numbers in October 2019. This is a huge leap forward for tourism in the country.
A major part of this growth has been visitors from nearby Argentina and Brazil. Tourism from each country has risen by up to 70%, largely due to targeted advertising campaigns. Given the success of these marketing efforts, it’s not hard to imagine that similar campaigns in other South American countries will yield such results. That being said, Chile still has issues with its overall infrastructure as well as rising crime rates. Both will need to be addressed to maintain these tourism numbers.
Chile is a diverse countries that boasts some of the greatest natural wonders in all of South America in addition to several notable archaeological sites. It has incredible mountain ranges as well as stunning beaches all along the Pacific Coast. On top of that, major cities like Santiago offer luxury accommodations and a thriving food scene. Chile is a country loaded with amazing travel opportunities, which is why tourism has been booming in recent months and will continue to do so.
