CO2 supply holds up in North America, but weaknesses remain | industrial gas consultancy intelligas consulting

Carbon dioxide supply has held up well in most parts of North America in recent months, despite signs of vulnerability in some locations.

The better-than-expected performance follows on from data published in August showing that output from the sizeable Jackson Dome CO2 field in Mississippi was in decline in the first half, but that was not in fact related to merchant CO2 supply not being met but to a fall-off in demand for CO2 for enhanced oil recovery. Overall North American merchant CO2 supply this season has been good.

Like every summer season, there have been planned maintenance shutdowns of CO2 plants across the region, but the impacts have generally been well-managed by producers, distributors and customers alike.

“Carbon dioxide supply has been in good shape this year compared with recent times,” said Maura Garvey, President of industrial gas consultancy Intelligas Consulting.
