GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — One of the biggest soccer events in the world will be held right here in the Valley beginning this week! The Copa America is heading to Glendale for big matchups you won’t want to miss.

The coveted tournament will be played all across the United States, but Arizonans get to see three games right in our home state.

Two Group Stage games will be played at State Farm Stadium on June 28 and June 30. Quarterfinals will take place on July 6, but fans will have to patiently wait and see which squads make it through the Group Stage.

Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay and Colombia all lead their groups after winning their opening matches and leading the groups in goals scored.

Group Stage Matchups

June 28 – Colombia vs. Costa Rica

Group D games continue as Colombia and Costa Rica face off. Colombia, who is one of the favorites to win the tournament, currently sits at the top of the group with three points after grabbing a 2-1 win against Paraguay in their opening match.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica is coming off a huge draw against Brazil. The squad was able to keep the powerhouse team scoreless through 90+ minutes.

The game will kick off at 3 p.m. Parking lots open at 12 p.m. and gates open at 1 p.m.

June 30 – Ecuador vs. Mexico

This will be Ecuador and Mexico’s third game of the Copa America, with both teams tied at three points apiece. Venezuela sits comfortably at the top of the group after defeating both teams.

Ecuador currently sits in second within Group B with a win and a loss. The team fell to Venezuela 2-1 in their opening match, but defeated Jamaica 3-1 in the following game.

Meanwhile, Mexico also sits at a 1-1 record but sits below Ecuador due to goal differentials. Mexico defeated Jamaica 1-0 in their first match but lost to Venezuela 1-0.

The game will kick off at 5 p.m. in Arizona. Parking lots open at 2 p.m. and gate open at 3 p.m.

Quarterfinal Matchup

Jul 6 – Quarterfinals TBD

The quarterfinal matchup will feature the winner of Group D and runner-up of Group C.

This could be exciting for those cheering on the U.S. Men’s National team. If the U.S. finishes second in Group C, they will be coming to Glendale, so break out your Team USA jerseys! Odds are looking good to bring the U.S. to Arizona, as they sit second within Group C currently. However, anything goes in tournaments, so you never know what to expect.

The winner of Group D could also be a toss-up, although Colombia is one of the favorites to win it all. Brazil’s national team is regarded as one of the best, but it may be hard for them to win it all without star Neymar. Their opening match draw wasn’t what fans wanted to see, but there’s still time for them to turn it around and get back on track.
