The United States is actively consulting with Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia to discuss a potential path forward for Venezuela after its highly contested July 28 election, according to State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
Last week, U.S. officials declared that electoral fraud had stripped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s reelection victory of any credibility. As a result, Washington has indicated that it is open to imposing new sanctions on the oil-rich nation.
The ongoing consultations underscore the international concern over Venezuela’s electoral integrity and the potential ramifications for its political and economic stability.
