40 immigrants become new citizens days before voter registration deadline

Forty people from all over the world stood at the Great Falls in Paterson on Thursday and became U.S. citizens, pledging allegiance to America on the spot where long ago another immigrant, Alexander Hamilton, dreamed of the country’s first industrial center.

On a golden autumn day, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services held a naturalization ceremony in a tent beside the shimmering falls. Immigrants from 16 countries, many who had escaped war and poverty, took the Oath of Allegiance at the Paterson-Great Falls National Historical Park.
