Tilaran Liberia – (Agenzia Fides) – “On Wednesday, July 6, we witnessed the expulsion of the Missionaries of Charity of Nicaragua, who since 1988 have served the most abandoned poor of that brother Country. The Consecrated Life of Costa Rica, through this message, wishes to express the feelings of solidarity with the sisters who, in their generous dedication, have dedicated themselves to reaching the most vulnerable and impoverished” (see Fides, 5/7/2022).
The joint Message of the men and women religious of Costa Rica (Confrecor) and the National Commission for Consecrated Life expresses solidarity with the Sisters of Mother Teresa, participation “in this painful situation” in which they found themselves, exhorting them as consecrated “to live in order to imitate Jesus”.
He also thanks them “for their dedication to be at the side of those who are thirsty and, in these moments, to live the prophetic dimension of persecution and rejection for the cause of the Kingdom”.
The message urges the Missionaries of Charity “not to lose the illusion of dedication, the courage to give everything and to say ‘everything is a gift, everything is grace’.” Finally, the message stresses and hopes that their stay in Costa Rica will be “an oasis of peace” for them and that Our Lady of the Angels “will cover them under her protective and maternal mantle”.
The Episcopal Conference of Costa Rica confirmed that the 18 Sisters of Charity of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, expelled from Nicaragua by the regime of Daniel Ortega, were welcomed in the Diocese of Tilarán Liberia, led by Monsignor Manuel Eugenio Salazar: “We welcome them with all the love they deserve for their service and their dedication to God and to the Church”.
