During their visit, the delegates met with key figures in Costa Rica’s infrastructure sector, including Congresswoman Carolina Delgado, Secretary of the Infrastructure Commission of the Legislative Assembly, and officials from the National Concessions Council (CNC), the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), and the firm Arias Law.

The delegation engaged with representatives from institutions such as the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN), the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), and the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) at a reception hosted by British Ambassador, Ben Lyster-Binns. Discussions centered around opportunities for the British companies to contribute to Costa Rica’s infrastructure development goals, aligning with the country’s goals to modernize and expand its infrastructure to international standards.

Ambassador Lyster-Binns highlighted the expertise of the participating companies, stating, “The companies that visited us this week are among the leaders in their respective fields and represent the best of what the UK has to offer in the infrastructure sector, from urban planning to sustainable transport projects to designing future-proof cities.” He emphasized their commitment to innovative solutions that support the UK Government’s clean growth agenda.

Public-private partnerships (PPPs) were a key topic of interest, as they offer a potential avenue to develop crucial infrastructure projects while promoting sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for Costa Rican citizens, according to Camila Toscana, the Embassy’s Director for Business and Trade.

With many of the participating companies already established in Latin America, their interest in the Costa Rican market represents a natural expansion of their regional presence, offering solutions aligned with international best practices. The visit concluded with a meeting with representatives from CoST, the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative, a UK Government-funded organization promoting transparency and accountability in public infrastructure projects.
