A decade after Brazil’s seismic Operation Lava Jato (Operation Car Wash) probe launched in 2014, offering the promise of stepped-up enforcement while revealing new depths of graft, corruption continues to present major challenges for businesses operating in Latin America. Even as lawmakers and enforcement authorities ramp up efforts to criminalize corrupt practices and punish corrupt actors, misconduct by public officials and private citizens continues to negatively impact companies.
