Pochettino’s USMNT set to face Costa Rica in friendly

The United States men’s national team will face Costa Rica on January 22 as part of its two-match stay in Florida, the country’s footballing body announced on Monday.

The body had announced earlier that the men’s team, helmed by Mauricio Pochettino, would kick off its 2025 calendar with a friendly against Venezuela on January 18. The South American country reached the Copa America quarterfinals earlier this year.

Pochettino’s stint as USA’s head coach has been decent so far. After marking his debut with a win against Panama in a friendly, and following it up with a loss against Mexico, the Argentine tactician led his side to a 5-2 (aggregate) win over Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals.

Only a few months into the job, the former Premier League manager will continue to monitor the progress of the players, especially since 2025 includes important competitions like the CONCACAF Nations League Finals and the CONCACAF World Cup ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at home.

“For a long time the January Camp has been an important part of the development of the National Team. It’s a unique opportunity to work with our MLS players closely and then finish with a good challenge against Costa Rica,” USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino said in a release. “Orlando has always been an amazing host for U.S. Soccer and we are excited for another chance to play in front of their fans.”
