Tia-Clair Toomey
She is back with a statement. Tia-Clair Toomey dominated the weekend and finished well ahead second place Raptis. Of all 6 events, Toomey won 5 of them, and the one event she didn’t win she finished 3rd. If anyone was still wondering how would the new mom adapt to her training, turns out she might be stronger than ever.
And a big shout out to Lexi Neely. She managed to go to her first CrossFit Games invitation as an individual (she competed in 2018 as a teen) after finishing just 1 point ahead Anikha Greer, who did not make it above the cutline.
South America
Men:
Guilherme Malheiros (Brazil) – 573 points
Kalyan Souza (Brazil) – 528 points
Bruno Marins (Brazil) – 528 points
Things looked optimistic again to Guilherme Malheiros. He managed to get back to the CrossFit Games after missing it out last year (and winning our hearts in 2021 and 2022). Malheiros looked consistent throughout the weekend but finished with a bang winning the last two events and consolidating his pole position.
Women:
Victoria Campos (Brazil) – 555 points
Julia Kato (Brazil) – 546 points
Andreia Pinheiro (Brazil) – 510 points
Victoria Campos is cementing her name as one of the ones to beat in South America. The Mayhem athlete has won Semifinals in the continent every year since 2022. A big shout out to Andrei Pinheiro as well – she is 41 years old, was already invited to the Games in the Age-Group Qualifier, but took it up with the younger generation and managed to get 3rd place – so she is invited to the Games twice this year – but she will probably choose to compete as an elite individual.
Africa
Only one spot was available for athletes competing in Africa. That meant, everyone was competing as if it were the Finals themselves.
Men:
Ruan Potgieter (South Africa) – 558 points
With Jason Smith no longer competing at the elite level, the field was wide open for someone new to come in. Many were looking out for Kealan Henry who managed to beat Jason Smith back in 2022 and snatched the only qualifying spot to the Games that year.
This time, Ruan Potgieter was close to perfection, won 50% of the events on the weekend and will be going to the CrossFit Games for the first time in his career (he’s been competing in Semifinals since 2021).
Women:
Gemma Rader (South Africa) – 561 points
On the women’s side, for the past two years, the competition was usually hyped around the Michelles – Michelle Merand and Michelle Latrende. However, just like in the men’s division, this time around neither was competing at Semifinals, which meant a chance for all newcomers to make a name for themselves.
And that is exactly what Gemma Rader did. The South Africa athlete finished all but one event in the top 3, finishing just 6 points ahead second place Christina Livaditakis. This is Rader’s first CrossFit Games competition as an individual elite athlete – she went to the Games in 2022 as part of a team.
The CrossFit Games is taking place on August 8-11 in Fort Worth, Texas.
