The musician Amaury Pérez Vidal, a known supporter of the Cuban regime and close friend of leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, announced via his social media that he is postponing an album release event. In a brief statement, Amaury explained the reasons behind this decision.
Initially, Pérez had planned to unveil three albums he recorded in collaboration with the Museum of Music on Thursday, September 26. However, after a meeting with all involved in organizing the event—held amid a desperate power outage—they decided to indefinitely delay the presentation. The singer and television host mentioned that it seemed “imprudent” to celebrate something as trivial as an album launch given the nation’s current hardships.
Pérez further stated that they would attempt to reschedule the event “when the country’s situation improves,” describing the postponement as a matter of “civility and common sense.” The announcement was made on his Facebook profile, “La Página de Amaury Pérez,” and it has sparked mixed reactions. Some support the decision, while others are skeptical about any improvement in the island’s situation, doubting the possibility of rescheduling the event.
“Good day to you. Is there any hope that the country’s situation will improve? I don’t think so,” commented one user.
“Dear Amaury, I’m not pessimistic, just eternally realistic. The situation in Cuba is hopeless, and as you know, hope lies with God. I admire and respect your decision to postpone for the sake of common sense, but the people desperately need art and love for God because the blackouts won’t stop, nor will they disappear,” wrote another user.
“I don’t think you should do that because music transports us and clears our minds. But decisions are made for a reason. Such uncertainty!” added another user.
Current Crisis in Cuba
Cuba is currently experiencing a severe crisis marked by fuel shortages, power generation issues, food scarcity, and deteriorating public services, plunging the population into one of the worst crises in its history.
Despite these challenges, the Cuban leadership claims to be working on solutions to improve the quality of life for its citizens, emphasizing the supposed “unity” of the people.
