HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 25 (ACN) On the penultimate day of the Cuba finished ninth in the 21st Women’s NORCECA Pan Am Cup after beating Peru in straight sets on the penultimate day of the tournament in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Team Cuba dominated the match with a 42-30 advantage in kills and an 8-5 margin in blocks, whereas Peru performed better in service 6-4 but committed 20 errors compared to Cuba’s 12.
In the semifinals, the Americans swept the Dominicans and the Argentineans won a 3-1 victory over the Colombians, so the U.S.A and Argentina—the current champion—will play for the gold medal.
U.S.A. has won the Pan Am Cup seven times since the first tournament in 2002, whereas the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil and Argentina have been first in five, four, three and one of these events, respectively.
