Cuban-American Actor Carlo Arrechea Reflects on His Childhood Dream of Eating an Apple

Carlo Arrechea, a Cuban-American actor and model, revealed in an interview that one of his childhood dreams while living in Cuba was to eat an apple. “One of my dreams in Cuba was to eat an apple. There were no apples in Cuba, at least not when I was there. So, that was the first thing I ate when I arrived in the United States,” Arrechea shared with OUT during an extensive interview.

Arrechea made his way to the United States in 2002 after his mother, who is also an actress, won a spot in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, popularly known as the lottery. “My mother played the lottery in 1998 and received the letter four years later, in 2002, when she was at the peak of her career,” he explained, adding that “it was a whirlwind of emotions. For me, it was a fresh start. For her, it meant leaving her career as an actress and starting over.”

Early Beginnings in Cuban Television

From a young age, Arrechea worked alongside his mother on a Cuban version of an “after-school special” made for television, beginning his acting journey at just six years old.

Straddling Two Worlds

Born in Havana on January 17, 1990, Arrechea commented, “I’ve been in the United States longer than in Cuba. It’s funny because sometimes I don’t feel Cuban enough, but not American enough either. It’s like a blend of both countries, and I’ve been taking the best from each.”

Throughout his career, Carlo has appeared in telenovelas such as “Más sabe el diablo,” “El Cartel 2,” and “Alguien te mira,” all aired on Telemundo. His talents have also graced six theater productions in Miami, as well as short films like “Fate’s Decree” and “El Manantial.”
