Araqchi made the comments in a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, held on the sidelines of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council and the 2025 session of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on Monday.
Hailing the good and stable relations between Iran and Cuba in various fields, Araqchi stressed the need to boost cooperation between the two countries and other like-minded developing nations in international organizations and multilateral institutions to safeguard their collective interests.
He reiterated the Iranian government and people’s solidarity and support for the Cuban government and people in the face of the unilateral coercive actions by the US.
Araqchi described the economic sanctions against Cuba as a gross violation of the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and the human rights of the Cuban people.
He stated that Iran consistently supports the United Nations General Assembly resolution condemning the economic embargos against Cuba.
For his part, the Cuban foreign minister described the relations with Iran as excellent and emphasized the political will of the Cuban leaders to develop relations in all areas.
Parrilla also pointed to the rapid and dynamic nature of the international developments and the intensified regional and international tensions due to the selfish and law-breaking approaches of certain actors, including the US and the Zionist regime.
He called for strengthening consultations and coordination between the two countries at the UN and other international organizations to prevent violation of international norms and the establishment of undesirable precedents.
During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed the developments in the West Asia and the ongoing gross violations of human rights of the Palestinian people.
They underscored the urgent need for an international action to prevent the forced displacement of Palestinians.
