From the National Assembly of Venezuela, tell me Cuba how to serve you

Author: Dalia Reyes Perera

In a gesture of love that grows every day, the National Assembly of Venezuela, in its last ordinary session, approved an agreement that ratifies total solidarity with Cuba at a time when the island is going through a very complex scenario, aggravated much more by the natural phenomena that have recently hit the Greater of the Antilles.

To be precise, a delegation of deputies from the sister nation officially presented this document to Cuban Ambassador Dagoberto Rodriguez Barrera and members of the diplomatic corps, in a meeting full of emotion and memories of the indestructible bonds that intertwine the homelands of Marti and Fidel, Bolivar and Chavez.

Edgardo Antonio Ramirez, president of the Venezuela-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, pointed out: “It is the love of Venezuela, of the Venezuelan people, it is important that Cuba knows that in the 335 Venezuelan municipalities and in the 24 states solidarity is growing, Cuba has given much to this nation, it has contributed to the training of doctors and other professionals, It has opened its arms to us, solidarity is a beautiful gesture to embrace and accompany us in the difficulties that we will overcome with love, solidarity and as a path we have the teachings of Bolivar, Marti and Commanders Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara”.

Congresswoman Maria Leon, known as “Leona de Chavez”, recalled with sensitivity and at the age of more than eighty, how even before the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, when the bearded rebels were fighting in the mountains of the east of the country, Venezuela contributed with donations to the island through the campaign “A Bolivar for the Sierra”.

Cuba is a part of us, said the fighter, paraphrasing José Martí: “Let Cuba tell us how to serve you, she has her sons and daughters in us,” she said emotionally.

And she added: “Our heart is with the Cuban people in the midst of these difficulties, we are dismayed, we have always felt this nation as our sister, not only because of the teachings of Martí and Fidel, not only because of the Bolivarian dream to see Cuba and Puerto Rico free, not only because of what Chávez left us, but because of what we have received for so many years from this beloved island, it is as if it were our homeland, when the people shout Cuba and Venezuela, one single flag, it is an idea that comes from the heart”.

Cuban Ambassador Dagoberto Rodriguez thanked the government, the state, the organizations and the people of Venezuela, as well as the solidarity movement through the “One Hundred Bolivars for Cuba” campaign, which, he said, gives us the strength to continue the struggle with the embrace of our brothers and sisters.

And the diplomat pointed out that “in these difficult days, the Venezuelan government has been present in these complexes, sending shipments of aid for our compatriots in Guantanamo, also for the West, I believe that if the National Assembly approves this agreement and if they express their desire to participate in this effort of solidarity, all this speaks of the brotherhood between two peoples”.

On the other hand, he informed that at this moment “the campaign of the Movement of Friendship and Solidarity One Hundred Bolivars for Cuba, to which hundreds and hundreds of Venezuelans have joined, and now the National Assembly is joining, this shows the love for our America that our founding fathers instilled in us. We are proud of this fraternity,” he concluded.
