US Secretary of Defense Hegseth Tours Naval Station Guantanamo Bay

Pete Hegseth met with troops at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay on Tuesday, February 25, as the US Secretary of Defense visited Cuba as part of Operation Southern Guard.

Footage filmed by US Marine Corps’ Corporal Cassidy Shepherd and released by the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) shows Hegseth landing in Guatanamo Bay and meeting with service members “who are currently supporting the illegal alien holding operations being led by the Department of Homeland Security,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement.

Hegseth, who was deployed to Guantanamo Bay with the New Jersey National Guard 20 years ago, was back there on Tuesday to assess the Naval Station operations, including the site’s “current capacity, security protocols, and contingency plans for potential expansion,” according to the US Army.
