On September 11, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with visiting First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelino Medina Gonzalez of Cuba in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that China-Cuba relations have constantly made new progress guided by leaders of both sides in recent years. China will view China-Cuba relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective as always, constantly consolidate bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields and continuously support each other on issues concerning respective core interests, so as to jointly promote the development of China-Latin America overall cooperation.
Marcelino Medina Gonzalez expressed that Cuba and China enjoy mutual trust and profound friendship, making bilateral relations a model for developing ties among big and small countries. Attaching great importance to its relations with China, Cuba stands ready to work more closely with China in various fields, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs and actively support the construction of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and China-Latin America overall cooperation.
On behalf of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi expressed condolences to Cuba over the recent hurricane disaster hitting the country. Marcelino Medina Gonzalez thanked China for it.
