BOGOTA – Avianca continues to make progress in its transformation plan, which includes the addition and suspension of some of its routes nationally and internationally. Last Friday, the Colombian airline announced the implementation of new flights in the markets of Colombia, Central America and Ecuador, with which it expects to locate the company’s operational resources on the routes with the highest demand and best performance.

In the case of Colombia, the airline announced new routes that will connect Bucaramanga with Cartagena, Santa Marta and Cúcuta directly. These will be operated through the regional airline, Regional Express Americas and will add 25 frequencies per week.

To this, joins the launch of the route Bogotá – Tumaco, which will have seven frequencies a week and will start flying on August 1st. In addition to this, to strengthen its presence from the city of Medellin, the airline announced that it has requested an operating permit to offer flights nationwide from the Enrique Olaya Herrera airport.

Regarding the markets of Central America and Ecuador, the company reported that since July 1, operations in Honduras have been resumed with the Tegucigalpa – San Pedro Sula route.

Likewise, from the first of August the operation of six additional frequencies a week will start on the El Salvador – Los Angeles (United States) route, which strengthens the activity of the airline with a total of 27 flights to the week between the two cities.

Finally, with the aim of broadening the connection options to Ecuadorians, the airline will add a daily frequency between Bogotá and Guayaquil, offering four flights per day on this route.

“As a company we will continue to study the performance of the route network to make the best decisions that allow us to achieve the objectives of our transformation plan and provide market options that are profitable and sustainable over time,” said Silvia Mosquera, commercial executive vice president of Avianca.

The restructuring of the Avianca routes also includes the suspension of the Barranquilla – Cali route, which will cease operations on October 1st of this year. However, tickets will continue to be sold for flights available before the final date of suspension, ie the routes operated in July, August and September 2019.

“All passengers with tickets purchased for dates after the suspension will be contacted by Avianca to provide them with different re-accommodation options within the airline’s network that will allow them to continue with their travel plans,” Avianca explained.
