JOEL THEODORE and Stephen Enile won a marathon contest to begin their campaign in the penultimate leg of this year’s NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Beach Volleyball Tour, yesterday, in El Salvador.
The T&T pair edged Mervel Mingo and Bill Frederick of Dominica 21-15, 21-23, 15-11 in 47 minutes in Group C.
Enile and Theodore were scheduled to tackle a pair from the host country after press time, and they will conclude their campaign in the round-robin stage against Canadians Jake MacNeill and Arran Chambers this morning.
The 16 pairs have been placed in four groups and the top two from each group will advance to this afternoon’s quarter-finals.
The semis and finals will take place tomorrow.
Theodore and Enile reached the quarters and ended up eighth in the seventh leg on Sunday, four days after winning the inaugural CAZOVA Beach Tournament at the same venue in Bonaire.
In their first competition since reaching the quarters of last year’s NORCECA circuit, the duo had brought up the rear in the 12-pair event at the same level when they made their seasonal debut in the sixth leg in Mexico mid-year.
Enile and Theodore then went on to compete in a tournament in the Volleyball World Beach Professional Tour in Turkey in late September.
