Given we are now into December, the Barça Academy community are likely now thinking about the festive period and all its traditions, but there is also a tournament set to take place in the Dominican Republic, which will be the sixth edition this year.
After an absence last season, the Barça Academy República Dominicana are organising the Barça Academy Cup Las Americas from 12 to 15 December at The Fields facilities (Punta Cana), which were specifically constructed to host this tournament featuring different Barça Academies and camps from all across the Americas.
This latest edition will start on 12 December and sees teams from the United States of America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, the Barça Academy Pro, two local sides from the Dominican Republic, and the Barça Escola Barcelona taking part. More than 400 players divided into four categories – under-9, under-11, under-13 and under-15 – will be vying to be crowned champions.
Previous editions have seen the Barça Academy República Dominicana dominate at the BACLA, but the other participants are definitely likely to want to put their name on the trophy this year.
Football and much more
As is the norm with this tournament, the teams and their families will be staying at a hotel in the most tourist-orientated area of the country. The sporting action will start at 9am each day, ending at around 2pm, but there will also be a number of activities to do both at the hotel and in the immediate surroundings. The visitors can make the most of beach activities such as kayaking, paragliding, snorkelling, as well as 5-a-side football, volleyball, dancing, and other programmed activities.
Something new to this edition will be an opening ceremony to mirror what takes place at major sporting events worldwide. A group of professional dancers and artists from the Dominican Republic will put on a show to kick off this sixth edition of the Barça Academy Cup Las Americas.
