Dominican Republic hosts major Latin American beekeeping congress

Santo Domingo.- The XVI Latin American Apiculture Congress (FILAPI 2024) opened on November 13, 2024, at the Pedro Mir Library of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), gathering 410 participants from 17 countries. Organized by the International Latin American Federation of Apiculture (FILAPI) and the Dominican Agrobusiness Board, Inc. (JAD), with support from UASD’s Faculty of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, this event runs until November 16. Recognized as Latin America’s leading beekeeping forum, FILAPI convenes every two years in different Latin American countries to promote collaboration among beekeepers, researchers, and industry stakeholders.

FILAPI 2024 serves as a vital platform for exchanging knowledge, discussing industry trends, and fostering sustainable practices. It also highlights the Dominican Republic’s role as a prominent beekeeping hub in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The congress agenda includes conferences, symposia, and roundtable discussions addressing sector challenges such as varroa mite control, pollination, and bee genetics. Attendees can also participate in a trade exhibition, honey tasting, and workshops focused on empowering women and youth in apiculture.
