DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. (WAVE) – Former UK and current Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns announced a formal partnership with GO Ministries and World Youth Clubs to spearhead the construction of a state-of-the-art basketball facility in the Dominican Republic.
The facility is designed to offer “unparalleled training and recreational opportunities for young athletes across the region.”
Towns is Dominican American and has a deep connection to the Dominican Republic through his late mother, Jacqueline, who was born there. Towns credits that relationship built on his heritage and a sense of community for his efforts to give back to a country he considers a second home.
“I’m excited to partner with GO Ministries/WYC to create a facility where kids can play basketball and provide a platform to learn life skills, build character and pursue their dreams,” Towns said. “The Dominican Republic has given me so much and this is my way of giving back.”
The facility will be in Santiago and will feature a full-sized indoor arena equipped with the latest in sports technology, training room and classroom as well as a community meeting space to host workshops and events that support holistic youth development.(GO Ministries)
