5 Atlanta (ATL) – Punta Cana (PUJ)
1,435 miles

Frontier Airlines will operate five flights each way in November 2024 between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic. The ultra-low-cost carrier faces direct competition on the 1,435-mile route from Delta Air Lines.

Punta Cana was the eighth-busiest international destination from Atlanta in 2023, with almost 300,000 passengers traveling on the route. With more than 9 million passengers annually, the airport is also the busiest in the Dominican Republic and second-busiest in the Caribbean, behind San Juan’s Luís Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU).

Surprisingly, Frontier Airlines’ service to Punta Cana is the only international route to make this list – the carrier’s other longest routes from Atlanta are all domestic.

4 Atlanta (ATL) – Phoenix (PHX)
1,587 miles

In November 2024, Frontier Airlines will operate 15 flights each way between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Like all of the routes in this list, services are operated by Frontier Airlines’ fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft, including the modern, fuel-efficient A320neo and A321neo.

Frontier Airlines faces direct competition on the 1,587-mile route from American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Southwest Airlines. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport serves as a major connecting hub for American Airlines, with the oneworld member airline commanding a 33% market share last year (second only to Southwest Airlines with 34% and way ahead of Frontier Airlines’ 6% market share).

3 Atlanta (ATL) – Las Vegas (LAS)
1,747 miles

Las Vegas serves as a major business and tourism hub, and Frontier Airlines will tap into this market by operating 30 flights each way in November 2024 between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). The route comes in at 1,747 miles in length.

The ultra-low-cost carrier faces direct competition from Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines on flights between Atlanta and Las Vegas. In 2023, Harry Reid International Airport saw its busiest year ever, processing more than 57 million passengers. The airport’s long-haul route network now includes the likes of:

Manchester (MAN) Seoul Incheon (ICN) Frankfurt (FRA).

2 Atlanta (ATL) – Los Angeles (LAX)
1,946 miles

In November 2024, Frontier Airlines will operate 30 flights each way between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in California. The 1,946-mile route was the sixth-busiest domestic route from Atlanta last year, and also the sixth-busiest route overall.

Both airports are among the busiest in the country, and the route is highly competitive, with Frontier Airlines going head-to-head with four other carriers:

American Airlines Delta Air Lines Southwest Airlines Spirit Airlines.

1 Atlanta (ATL) – San Francisco (SFO)
2,139 miles

Frontier Airlines’ longest route from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in California, coming in at 2,139 miles in length. The ultra-low-cost carrier will operate 30 flights each way in November 2024.

Frontier Airlines faces direct competition on the route from two of the US ‘Big Three’ legacy carriers – Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. San Francisco International Airport is a major hub for United Airlines, seeing a significant portion of the carrier’s transpacific services, including routes to the likes of:

Brisbane (BNE) Seoul Incheon (ICN) Taipei (TPE).

Frontier Airlines is known for its exciting airplane tales that feature endangered species, birds, and animals. The most recent additions include Axl the Axolotl, Manuel the Squirrel Monkey, and Leaf the Morelet’s tree frog.My favorite is Edward the Bald Eagle, which adorns the airline’s third A321neo. Do you have a favorite Frontier Tail? Let us know the best ones in the comments below.

Frontier Airlines commenced operations in July 1994, and has since grown to become a major player in the US ultra-low-cost aviation market. The latest data from ch-aviation shows that Frontier Airlines’ fleet is currently made up of 55 aircraft from the Airbus A320 family, with an average age of around six years old. This is broken down into:

8 x Airbus A320 82 x Airbus A320neo 21 x Airbus A321 44 x Airbus A321neo.

Frontier Airlines’ fleet is set to grow exponentially over the coming years, as it awaits the delivery of 27 Airbus A320neos and a staggering 164 Airbus A321neos. It remains to be seen if these new aircraft will be used to expand the carrier’s route network from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

However, even with further growth, Frontier Airlines is highly unlikely to ever oust Delta Air Lines as Atlanta’s dominant carrier. The SkyTeam member boasts the world’s largest airline hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, operating more than 1,000 flights each day to over 200 destinations around the world, including to destinations as far away as Johannesburg (JNB), Cape Town (CPT), and Tokyo (HND).

Delta Air Lines’ presence at the airport is so strong that it has a 72% market share. To put that into perspective, the second-largest carrier at the airport is currently Southwest Airlines, with a 9% market share.
