Further heavy rain has caused flooding in five provinces of Ecuador over the last few days,
According to the country’s disaster management agency Secretaría de Gestión de Riesgos (SGR), since 18 March heavy rain has triggered floods and landslides in the provinces of Cotopaxi, Santo Domingo De Los Tsáchilas, Los Rios, Guaya and El Oro.

Cotopaxi Province
Flooding occurred in Pangua Canton in Cotopaxi Province on 18 March 2023. SGR reported 4 bridges and 2 homes were destroyed, and around 30 people were affected.
Santo Domingo De Los Tsáchilas Province
Flooding affected Santo Domingo canton in Santo Domingo De Los Tsáchilas Province on 18 March after the Blanco River broke its banks. Around 5 homes were destroyed, 150 damaged with around 150 families were affected.
Los Ríos Province
The overflowing Chila River caused flooding in Valencia Canton on 22 March. Around 150 homes were damaged and a total of 600 people were affected. On the same day, the Matecito river broke its banks in Baba Canton, damaging 80 homes and affecting 320 people.
El Oro Province
Wide areas of Santa Rosa Canton were under water after rivers broke their banks on 23 March. SGR reported 200 homes damaged, with around 21 families evacuated. The power supply was interrupted. In total 800 people have been affected.
Guayas Province
Flooding occurred in Simón Bolívar Canton in Guayas Province on 24 March 2023. Streets and around 267 homes were damaged. in total 841 people were affected.
