The unluckiest own goal ever.

Former Chelsea midfielder Kasey Palmer was on the end of some terrible luck against Ecuador in the Copa America, as he put the ball past his own goalkeeper in bizarre fashion.

The 2024 Copa America got underway last week, as holders Argentina cruised to a 2-0 win over Canada, with the tournament set to conclude on the 15th of July at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The competition has already seen some spectacular moments, but Jamaica’s Palmer will not want to relive Wednesday’s loss to Ecuador.

The South American nation ran out 3-1 winners with goals from Kendry Paez and Alan Minda, putting themselves second in their group after defeat to Venezuela.

Unfortunately for Palmer, it was his bad luck that got the ball rolling as he blocked a cross from Piero Hincapie which sent the ball ballooning over his goalkeeper and into the top corner.

Palmer now plays his football in the Championship for Coventry City but was on Chelsea’s books until 2019.

The 27-year-old represented England from under 17s to under 21s but made the decision to switch allegiance to the Caribbean island in 2021 and has since made eight international appearances.

The Jamaican international was one of many Chelsea youngsters who never made a single senior appearance, with Palmer being loaned to Huddersfield, Blackburn Rovers, Derby County, and Bristol City before making his move to Robins permanent in 2019.

Following a move in 2022, Palmer has made more appearances for Coventry than any of his previous clubs, and made 32 Championship appearances last campaign, scoring two games.
