UK tour firms continue to operate trips as normal. Sarah Bradley, the managing director of Journey Latin America, said: “It’s too early to say what impact this unfortunate event will have on bookings to Ecuador although to date, clients are continuing to travel as planned.” 

Catrin Davies, the senior product manager at Latin Routes, added: “Everything on the ground is still operating as normal. But we continue to monitor the situation closely with regular feedback from our in-country partners, so we are prepared to adapt if the situation changes.” 

Martin Johnson, the chairman of the UK-based Latin American Travel Association (Lata), said: “Lata is saddened by the current situation in Ecuador, a country that has generally avoided political unrest, and is monitoring the situation very closely, remaining in regular contact with partners on the ground. 

“The UK Foreign Office advice remains unchanged and Lata tour operator members are reporting that most holidays are unaffected at this time. 

“We do, as always, recommend that travellers book through a reputable tour operator, who will keep a close eye on the situation and be able to make any changes to your itinerary, in the unlikely event that this becomes necessary.”
