Bukele, a populist leader who has garnered attention for his unorthodox style and embrace of social media, has developed a reputation for his sometimes controversial comments and policies.

Known for his youthful energy and often direct communication, Bukele has previously been criticized for his praise of Trump’s policies, including on immigration and his stance on cryptocurrency. Bukele’s government has also moved forward with initiatives that align with some of Trump’s priorities, such as expanding ties with the U.S. while seeking to bolster El Salvador’s economic standing.
