“We need to close the border and prevent any further criminals from entering our country.
“We need to gather all of the individuals who crossed over the border illegally, return them to their home country, or expel them to Mexico. While in Mexico or their home country, they can apply for legal entry before an immigration court,” she said.
Patty came face to face with her daughter’s suspected killer in court on October 4.
The court date, planned as a motion hearing, was changed to a postponement hearing after the defense submitted a request to delay the trial.
The trial was initially set to begin later this month but has now been postponed to April 2025, giving the defense additional time to review the evidence, which public defender Marcus Jenkins described as “voluminous.”
“The family is strong and taking this in stride, knowing that justice will take time. We remain committed to ensuring that Rachel’s memory is honored and justice is served,” Randolph Rice, the lawyer for Morin’s family, said in a statement.
Morin previously revealed that she has not heard from the vice president on the death of her daughter.
She launched a withering critique of Harris’s record on immigration and border security.
When questioned on her immigration policies, she responded, “What policies? She has none.”
“She destroyed safeguards that were already in place and opened our borders to a deadly flood of illegal immigrants from all over the world, failing to guarantee the safety of America.
“Harris had three and a half years to solve this problem, and she’s done nothing, so she is either incompetent or she thinks it’s acceptable for Americans to die at the hands of illegal immigrants,” she claimed.
Newsweek has contacted the Harris campaign for comment.
Harris has pledged to revive the bipartisan border security bill after it was effectively torpedoed by Trump, who ordered GOP lawmakers to oppose the legislation.
The former president urged congressional Republicans to kill the bill, thus depriving the Biden-Harris administration of introducing a flagship immigration policy in the months before an election that could be decided on the issue.
A recent Gallup poll reveals bipartisan support for reduced immigration, with 55 percent of respondents expressing a desire to see immigration levels decrease, while just 25 percent preferred maintaining the current levels.
Mass deportation is a core policy of the Republican’s policy platform for 2024, with Trump promising it would be the largest such program in American history.
The GOP said it would target illegal or undocumented migrants living in the U.S., giving a figure of 11 million.
Several groups have criticized Trump’s proposed mass deportation plans.
“Given a choice, voters overwhelmingly support a pathway to citizenship over mass deportations,” The Immigration Hub Deputy Director Beatriz Lopez previously told Newsweek.
“No one in America wants to see families who have been here for many years separated—and that’s what Trump’s plan would do.
GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales, who represents Texas’s 23rd Congressional District, previously told Newsweek that the U.S. does not have the “resources” to carry out Trump’s plan.
