Several medical residents from Jefferson Health campuses in the Northeast took part in a medical mission trip to provide care to underserved patients in Central America. Eight residents and one Family Medicine faculty physician traveled to El Salvador to provide medical care to patients in rural communities. Over the span of five days, they provided essential primary care services to about 1,400 patients.
The residents were also awarded the Community Enhancing Grant from the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association. The trip was made possible through Doctors of the Americas, a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian relief and medical care to patients in need, and Comandos de Salvamento, a Salvadoran emergency medical services organization. ••
