New Delhi: India was elected as the President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for a two-year term from 2024 to 2026, while France was chosen as Co-President in a closely watched contest with Grenada at the seventh session of the ISA Assembly held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The ISA Assembly, the apex decision-making body of the Alliance, also selected eight Vice Presidents representing the four regional groups for the next term. Ghana and Seychelles were elected for Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka for Asia and the Pacific, Germany and Italy for Europe and Others, and Grenada and Suriname for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The session focused on ISA’s main priorities of energy access, energy security, and energy transition as it works to scale up solar energy deployment globally. The Assembly, which meets annually at the ministerial level, plays a critical role in implementing ISA’s framework agreement and assessing the impact of its programs in terms of cost, reliability, and finance.

ISA’s governance structure, comprising the Assembly, the Standing Committee, and Regional Committees, ensures a coordinated approach to decision-making and cooperation among member countries. These gatherings enable ISA members to strengthen ties and explore areas for collaboration to address global energy challenges.
