Guatemala man pleads guilty to re-entering the United States for a second time

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A man from Guatemala pled guilty to re-entering the United States a second time after previously being deported.

Thirty-year-old Urbano Martin-Ramirez from Dennison, Iowa was convicted of one felony count of illegal re-entry, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

The attorney’s office says Ramirez admitted, during the plea hearing, that he re-entered the United States after being deported to Guatemala in April of 2018.

He was arrested in Crawford County, Iowa for second-degree theft on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Officials say while a presentencing report is prepared, a sentencing hearing has yet to be set. In the meantime, Ramirez still and will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshall until his sentencing hearing.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ramirez faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release after his imprisonment ends.

This case was investigated by the Enforcement and Removal Office at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau.
