KINGSTON, Jamaica -Having switched allegiance from Jamaica to Guyana, Romaine Brackenridge has now left Jamaican club Harbour FC and joined Slingerz FC in Guyana.
The tough-tackling defender was called up to the Reggae Boyz training squad in 2016 but failed to earn a cap and has since made his debut for Guyana in November 2024 against Barbados.
“First I wanna thank God for blessing me with such an opportunity to represent the best club in Guyana and that’s Slingerz,” Brackenridge told Observer Online.
“It’s an overwhelming feeling not just for me but also for my family, leaving from the land of wood and water to the land of many waters to represent Slingerz,” he added.
The 30-year-old Brackenridge, who was born in Jamaica and spent time in England, attended Harbour View Primary School, Vauxhall High and the Caribbean Maritime University.
He played for several premier league clubs winning with Portmore United in 2017 and more recently with Harbour View in 2022. He won the 2019 CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship with Portmore United and also captained Tivoli Gardens.
Having decided to represent Guyana through his grandparents, it was fitting that he moved to Slingerz FC.
“I’m on a mission and that’s to hand back the shirt of Slingerz in a better way I received it and that is to win the Elite League,” said Brackenridge.
“It also allows me to get familiar with my international teammates and the culture of Guyana and so far it’s been amazing,” he noted.
