Minister Todd attends IV meeting of Foreign Affairs Minister of Brasilia Consensus

MINISTER of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Hugh Todd, is currently attending the IV Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Brasilia Consensus. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, brings together South American leaders to assess regional integration efforts.

The primary focus of the meeting is to evaluate the Roadmap for the Integration of South America, which was approved by the Presidents of South America in October 2023. This roadmap outlines a flexible framework for dialogue aimed at promoting co-operation and advancing regional integration across 17 priority areas. These areas include climate change, transnational organised crime, trade and investment, digital connectivity, cross-border co-operation, and defence.

Other key focus points are social development, education and culture, energy development, financing, gender equality, disaster risk management, infrastructure, transport, productive integration, migration, health, and food security.
The meeting is being presided over by His Excellency Luis Gilberto Murillo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, who serves as the Pro Tempore President of the Brasilia Consensus. Minister Todd’s participation underscores Guyana’s commitment to regional collaboration on these critical issues.

As discussions progress, the leaders aim to strengthen ties and foster greater unity among South American nations, working collectively to address the region’s most pressing challenges.
