PNG hosts 2024 World Coconut Day, registrations underway

Registrations are underway to commence Day one of the 2024 World Coconut Day hosted at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.

This event, hosted by Kokonas Indastri Koporesen (KIK) and the Government of Papua New Guinea, is Centered around the theme “Coconut for a Circular Economy: Building Partnership for Maximum Value.”

This celebration brings together an international conference, exhibition, and competitions, highlighting the immense potential of the coconut sector.

This event is made possible with Papua New Guinea being a proud member of the International Coconut Community (CC), along with twenty (20) other member countries.

According to the Executive Director of ICC, Dr. Jelfina C. Alou in her welcome message to stakeholders, PNG holds the highest coconut area and production among Pacific countries.

The ICC member countries include eight Asian countries: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Timor Leste, nine Pacific countries: Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu, one Caribbean country: Jamaica, one African country: Kenya and one country in South America: Guyana.

The managing director of the KIK Mr Allan Aku welcomes all the international members of the ICC to PNG and says that he looks forward to a meaningful collaboration and partnership that will emerge from this special event.

Meanwhile, the commitment of KIK and the Government of PNG is to sustain the sector by playing a vital role in supporting smallholder farmers, producers, and consumers.
