Suspected bandit shot during attempted robbery on America Street

POLICE are investigating the attempted robbery of a 51-year-old clothes vendor/money changer which occurred at high noon on Friday at J’s Outlet at the corners of Avenue of the Republic and America Street in Georgetown, by two men, both clad in blue jumpsuits and, one of whom was armed with a gun.
The incident resulted in the shooting of one of the suspects identified as Elijah Martin called ‘Swine’, a 23-year-old unemployed resident of C-Field Sophia, Georgetown.
The victim told the police that he was standing at the corners of Avenue of the Republic and America Street in the vicinity of J’s Outlet, plying his daily trade, when he observed two men on a red and black XR motorcycle riding from the southern direction and stopped in front of him.

The rider then shouted, “Shoot him and kill him,” which caused the money changer to run into J’s Outlet and raise an alarm. The pillion rider then dismounted the motorcycle and ran behind him into the store, pointing a gun at him.
Police Headquarters reported that a 33-year-old security guard who was on duty at the store saw what was happening and drew his weapon (One Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol and seventeen live rounds of 9MM ammunition). However, he was relieved of the Glock pistol (and ammo) by the suspect.

According to the police report, a 29-year-old manager who was in the store observed the suspect holding the security guard at gunpoint. The manager, who was armed with a licensed Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol, discharged several rounds in the direction of the suspect, one of which hit him to his lower abdomen.
The suspect then dropped the firearm that he was armed with and ran out of the business place with the firearm that he relieved the security guard of. The suspect then joined his accomplice, who was waiting on the motorcycle on Avenue of the Republic, after which they rode off.

Police processed the scene, and four live 9mm rounds and four 9mm spent shells, along with a silver and black .32 Taurus pistol with two .32 rounds of ammunition that the suspect dropped, were found at the scene.
At about 13:20 hours, acting on information received, the police visited the Emergency Unit at the GPHC where they found Martin lying on a bed in the Critical Bay area with a wound to his left lower abdomen. He was questioned as to how he received his injury, but he remained silent. Martin is presently under police guard at the GPHC.
The firearm, ammunition and spent shells found on the scene were marked, placed into separate evidence bags and lodged to be taken to the ballistics section for analysis. CCTV cameras were seen in the area and are presently being reviewed.
