14 Pro-Card on offer for winners

THE Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Champions showcase returns to Georgetown, Guyana, for its 51st edition at the National Cultural Centre with over 20 countries confirmed.
The event, slated for the 17th to the 20th of October, will see 250 athletes, who have been confirmed.

President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Keavon Bess, speaking with the Guyana Chronicle contended that the body continues to engage the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the Director of Sports as they get closer to the date of the showcase.
He said they have done the hard miles and have everything in place for the country’s hosting, adding, “Generally speaking we have everything in place to ensure we have a successful CAC 2024. We have already dealt with the accommodations for athletes and executive coming for IFBB and CAC body and also we have secured venue, we have put all the logistical works in place to ensure we have a smooth competition.”

He noted too that they have brought International Body Building Federation (IFBB) and CAC associations up to speed with the plans on a continuous basis as they seek to make the event a grand one.
Bess says that gold, silver and bronze medals will be up for grabs, in addition to the highly sought after body building pro cards.

“The top six will receive medals, bronze is from third, fourth place and fifth, second place silver and first place gold, they [the athletes] get the bragging rights of the Caribbean to be the champion for their specific category. The golden opportunity is to acquire a professional card, they will be giving out a total of 14, so 14 athletes stand to benefit and become a professional athlete and at that professional level there is a lot of money to be made.”
The event is set to see some of the top bodybuilding nations from around the region competing, with Bess saying, “The big names in the Caribbean and Central America will be at this competition, you are talking [about] the likes of Barbados, they have a very big team, about 20 athletes. [The] Bahamas, they are another powe- house in bodybuilding; Antigua and Barbuda,[another] powerhouse in bodybuilding, at this point and time Antigua has the most professional athletes, athletes that [are] on pro card and gone on to be a [sic] professional, we have Mexico, Trinidad and top bodybuilding nation Suriname coming.”

He said that this year will also see a number of countries on the CAC stage for the first time, including the likes of Haiti and St Vincent.
The event is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, the Guyana Olympic Association, Twins Manufacturing, Republic Bank Guyana Limited, Fitness Express and Camille’s Academy.
At the 50th edition of the competition in Aruba last year, Guyana secured four gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.
