SOUTH BEND — Clear bags to make security checkpoints easier for the Sept. 14-15 Fusion Fest are being given away free of charge Friday at the Howard Park Event Center.
South Bend’s Venues Parks & Arts department and the city have a limited number of clear bags that will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 5 p.m. Friday until the supply runs out. There is a limit of one bag per adult.
City officials said in a news release that metal detectors will be in use at each entrance to Fusion Fest for security screening purposes. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Howard Park.
The two-day festival will be filled with food vendors, music, demonstrations and artisans from North America/South America, Africa, and Europe/Asia. Each region will be separated and will include stages and vendors.
This year features four live performance stages, a zipline and bungee trampoline experience, and a drone show set for 8 p.m. Saturday.

All people entering secured festival sites will have their bags checked, and the clear bags are encouraged to make wait times shorter as people pass through the bag checking areas.
