WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. (WPEC) — A Fort Pierce man came back from his trip to Jamaica only to find out he had been accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office stated that on November 4, 2024, 20-year-old Aniya Sheppard’s body was discovered with gunshot wounds in an unincorporated portion of West Melbourne.
Deputies responded to the manufactured home community in the area of Eber Boulevard and Buddy Drive around 6:40 a.m. after someone reported seeing her body, according to the statement.
Officials said their investigation revealed that Travion Dean, 22, and Sheppard, who were previously in a romantic relationship, were sharing a room at the Extended Stay America motel on US 192 in West Melbourne.
According to the report, the two left the motel together in the morning and had a ride share drop them off in the area of the shooting which video surveillance confirmed.
The sheriff’s office stated that they had further surveillance of the two together at the time of the shooting.

Additionally, detectives learned that Dean had a rideshare driver pick him up after the shooting on Minton Road which took him back to the motel where he left the motel carrying Sherppard’s belongings.
Dean was brought into custody and was accused of premeditated murder in the first degree on Thursday in Fort Lauderdale as he returned from Jamaica.
The victim’s mother, Katina Sheppard, said her daughter had a ‘beautiful heart,’ and leaves behind four brothers and sisters.
“The pain to hearing that, no matter how it’s given to you, is indescribable, and to know that my child was left on the side of the road, it made me hurt even worse because she didn’t deserve that,” Katina Sheppard told CBS12 News. “She was just a giving person.”
