The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has strongly condemned the security threat on Prime Minister Holness and his family.
General Secretary Dr. Horace Chang commended the police for acting swiftly to ensure the threat was addressed.
Dr. Chang says the JLP stands firmly and resolutely in support of the Prime Minister who has “dedicated his life to serving his country and continues to lead Jamaica with distinction”.
The JLP has also sought to blame a false social media post that the Prime Minister is wanted by the police on operatives of the People’s National Party.
Dr. Chang said Jamaica should not return to the days where underhanded and devious tactics are pursued for political gain.
Fake image
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has distanced itself from the doctored image circulating on social media, falsely suggesting that Prime Minister Andrew Holness is a subject of its Wanted Wednesdays campaign.
The JCF said this image is fake and does not originate from its official channels.
In a release the JCF said this kind of malicious content undermines its crime fighting efforts and the integrity of the Wanted Wednesdays initiative.
The JCF said it views this incident as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and divert attention from the real purpose of its campaign, which is to bring criminals to justice and ensure public safety.
It called for members of the public to desist from sharing or posting the misleading content any further.
